Whitecaps in Williams Lake

Vancouver Whitecaps FC players and coaches were in Williams Lake in April 2008 to provide a challenging, focused and fun professional training camp for youth from the region. The camps are part of the Whitecaps regional programming, which reaches many communities throughout the province.

The training camp, which took place from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27 at Esler Fields, is part of the Whitecaps mandate to grow the game of soccer in British Columbia and Canada. The camp was delivered in partnership with the Williams Lake Youth Soccer Association (WLYSA) and was sold out. Youth ages six to 16, of all skill levels participated.

Two former Canadian internationals and Vancouver Whitecaps, current Youth Director Dan Lenarduzzi, and Camp Manager Silvano (Sam) Lenarduzzi, managed the camp, leading top-class professional instruction from Whitecaps coaches and players. The Whitecaps worked with representatives from the WLYSA to identify talented players in the region, and to provide those prospects with the opportunity to be evaluated and potentially play in the Whitecaps youth system.

Partial funding for the camp was generously provided by the TELUS Community Fund. TELUS team member Kevin Gilder, a volunteer with the WLYSA, helped to secure this grant to the Whitecaps Foundation and participated in the weekend’s events.
