Whitecaps players and staff once again participated and supported the 2010 Kick For a Cure, which took place on Saturday July 24th at Heritage Woods Secondary, Port Moody. The annual event raises money for the Michael Cuccione Foundation, which aims to find a cure for childhood cancers, as well as the Whitecaps Foundation, which aims to help create the fittest generation of BC youth.

Several Whitecaps players helped coach soccer clinics for U5 to U13 boys and girls. Participation in the clinics was free, but participants were encouraged to gather donations to support the two Foundations. Nearly $70,000 was raised from the event. The first place winner for the youth who secured the most pledges was Ellie Baker and second place was Dominic Rungen.

In addition to the youth who participated, local individuals and corporations get involved in the fundraising fun.The first place winner for adults with the most pledges secured was the Methanex Corporation team and second place was taken by AC Currence. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who got involved!

On a busy day that also saw the Whitecaps Women win the W-League Conference Final at home, Bob Lenarduzzi took time to visit the event, join in the soccer fun and say a few words. The Whitecaps Foundation is proud to continue our partnership with the Michael Cuccione Foundation and looks forward to 2011, when the Kick For a Cure returns to Town Centre in Coquitlam.
