April 25, 2008

Vancouver Whitecaps FC coaches and players will be in Prince George this weekend to provide a challenging, focused and fun professional soccer training camp for youth from the region.

The training camp, which will take place from Saturday, April 26 to Sunday, April 27 at Rotary Fields, is part of the Whitecaps mandate to grow the game of soccer in British Columbia and Canada. The camp is being delivered in partnership with the Prince George Youth Soccer Association. Youth ages seven to 16, of all skill levels, will be participating.

Former Canadian internationals and Vancouver Whitecaps defenders Dan, and Silvano (Sam) Lenarduzzi, will participate in this weekend’s camp. Dan, who is the Whitecaps director of youth development, and Sam, who is the Whitecaps camp manager, will oversee the camp, leading top-class professional instruction from Whitecaps head coaches including Bart Choufour  - Whitecaps Head Coach Boys Prospects and Jesse Symons – Whitecaps Head Coach Girls Prospects

In addition to working with all levels of players in Prince George, the Whitecaps will include a special Prospects program to help identify talented players in the region, and to provide those prospects with additional Whitecaps opportunities.

This camp builds on two other recent highly-successful Northern BC Whitecaps camps held in Williams Lake and Quesnel.

The TELUS Community Fund has generously provided partial funding for this camp in Prince George and the Williams Lake and Quesnel camps.

The Whitecaps and Prince George Youth Soccer Association Camp are also supported by a variety of community partners, including The Coast Inn of the North, National Car Rental, the Free Press, East Side Marios,  the River 1103, the Drive 99.3 and Wendy’s Restaurants.
