Women's Series showcased in Local Communities

May 28, 2010

This season all Whitecaps Women’s home games will take place in our local communities, starting with Coquitlam’s Percy Perry Stadium on May 30. The other four games will take place in Langley, Burnaby, Richmond and Victoria.

After a successful pilot project in 2009, the Whitecaps Women’s Soccer Series (WWSS) will return, bigger and better in 2010. This season all Whitecaps Women’s home games will take place in our local communities, starting with Coquitlam’s Percy Perry Stadium on May 30th. The other four games will take place in Langley, Burnaby, Richmond and Victoria.

"The Series is a great way to showcase the Whitecaps women’s team and provide access to role models for young girls involved in soccer, and sport in general. As we all know, continued involvement in organized sport contributes to maintenance of overall health and fitness, and at a young age can promote the development of crucial skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication." Bob Lenarduzzi

In addition to the action on the pitch, the Whitecaps will host free pre-match clinics and halftime mini-games for local youth. Following the match, the Whitecaps women’s players will take part in autograph sessions allowing girls to get up close and personal with their soccer heroines.

This year we are extremely excited to have Kara Lang joining the series as Women's Soccer Ambassador. As a high profile, international player, Kara will be visiting local communities after the WWSS to speak to the girls who attended the matches and took part in the clinics and mini-games. We aim to inspire a new generation of women’s players and continue to develop women’s soccer across the province.

"What a thrill for a 10yr girl who loves soccer!" – Jeff, Participant Parent

The generosity of our supporters has enabled us to offer tickets to the WWSS games at a reduced cost, and involve many more young girls in this inspiring program. We are very grateful to all our supporters of the 2009 Women’s Series, and look forward to working with you all again in 2010.
