Net Works Cabinet member Tina Osen wins Women of Influence award
November 27, 2009 The Whitecaps Foundation is pleased to announce that Tina Osen, a great supporter of and advocate for both the club and the Foundation, has been presented with the Deloitte Women of Influence Award. The President and CEO of HUB International received the honour at a luncheon at Vancouver’s Sutton Place Hotel November 18.
This year’s nominees recognized “local heroes” and champions of their communities, and Tina is most definitely a fitting recipient. She has played an integral role in the success of the Whitecaps Foundation’s Net Works committee - a group of dedicated Vancouver business people working to advance the cause of women in sport.
Through personal commitment and a keen eye for funding opportunities, Tina helped to raise nearly $30,000 for the women’s program this year in support of the inaugural Whitecaps Women’s Soccer Series. Already, Tina has begun the work of preparing for next summer’s Women’s Soccer Series, an initiative that aims to keep young girls involved in sport.
As British Columbia’s only sports franchise with a top-level women’s program, the Whitecaps are investing in a significant community asset and contributing immensely to the growth of the women’s game. Net Works is critical to helping fund these amateur athletes and important role models, as well as to highlight the role of women in sport and their on and off-pitch contributions to our community.
The Whitecaps Foundation applauds Tina for her dedication to community and commitment to the development of youth through the Net Works committee.
The Deloitte Women of Influence is a program which provides women with a forum to share their experiences and gain support and inspiration from each other. Started in Toronto in 1994, the program can be found in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Waterloo, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax.
